We’re totally committed to equal and fair opportunity for all and to making Sainsbury’s a much more diverse and inclusive place to work and shop.
It’s important for us all to speak up against racism and to ensure we are a positive force for change in the world. Starting with our own business.
Right now, only 8% of our senior leaders are from ethnic minority backgrounds, and we know that black people are under-represented within that group. This is not good enough. And for it to change, we commit to change.
We will :
1. Train our 250 senior leaders and our board in understanding and fluently talking about race and ethnicity.
2. Triple our investment in the development of our ethnic minority colleagues, with a particular focus on progression of our black colleagues.
3. Complete an ethnicity pay gap review and publish the results and our actions this year.
4. Work to set targets for black colleague representation, and report regularly on our progress.
5. Make sure all head office management roles are advertised externally, giving us access to more black talent.
These are small steps, and we know this is just the beginning.
We want all our black colleagues and customers to know we’re proud to stand with you.
