Argos enlists the stars of Rupaul’s Drag Race UK to boost the nation’s confidence with brand new hair looks as 25 per cent claim they haven’t styled their hair since March
The pandemic has taken its toll on the way we feel about our looks, according to a nationwide poll by Argos which revealed that 46 per cent of people now feel less confident in our appearance.*
In fact, Brits now spend an average of just 16 minutes a day getting ready, and we spend a massive five hours and thirty-four waking minutes of every day in our pyjamas. We’ve worn smart attire on top with just underwear or joggers on the bottom for video calls an average of 25 times, and 56 per cent have yet to have a ‘night out’ in 2020.
The results come as Argos attempts to give Brits a boost with people for whom looking glamorous and feeling confident is part of their everyday world: the queens of Rupaul’s Drag Race.
The Vivienne and Blu Hydrangea, both renowned for their show-stopping drag on the hit BBC show, will host virtual classes to show people how to create a stunning new look, including how to use the hair tools available at Argos.
Argos decided to launch the classes after six out of ten (59 per cent) of people said they felt more confident in themselves after styling their hair. In fact, the survey showed that 46 per cent will be pulling out all the stops this Christmas as they get glammed up for the living room.
Sales data from Argos showed a rush on hair, beauty and grooming tools ahead of Christmas, with sales of personal care items more than doubling this November and December versus the same period last year, while hair curling and hot air styling devices are up 60 per cent year-on-year as Brits prepare to create perfectly coiffed locks on Christmas Day.
Jessica Pasco, Senior Buyer for personal care at Argos, said: “Despite the ongoing restrictions, we’ve seen a huge rise in the number of hair tools being bought at Argos, suggesting people will be going all-out with their appearance this Christmas as they see their family and friends for the first time. In fact, our poll showed that one in six people have bought three or more new looks to wear over the festive period.
“Styling your hair is a huge mood-booster, and to help those who want to experiment with something new, we’ve enlisted the fabulous stars of Rupaul’s Drag Race to host virtual classes.”
The Vivienne, the winner of Rupaul’s Drag Race UK, said: “This year has been super tough for everyone, so getting glammed up for Christmas will give us the lift we all deserve. A fabulous hairdo can change your whole mood. I can’t wait to help people achieve some amazing new looks all from their living room.”
The classes will take place on Wednesday 23 December and are bookable via Eventbrite. Those who sign up for the virtual classes will be taken through what it takes to create full drag glam, using tools available at Argos, with the chance to ask questions to Blu and The Vivienne about their beauty routines.
