Sainsbury’s named best organic supermarket in prestigious BOOM awards

15 July 2019

Sainsbury’s is delighted to have been named the ‘Best Organic Supermarket of the Year’ at this year’s BOOM Awards (the Best of Organic Market Awards).

Held by the Soil Association, such recognition is a great honour as the BOOM awards, now in their fourth year, are the UK’s only dedicated accolades celebrating the very best of the organic industry, who work hard to grow, produce, sell and serve organic food.

As the first UK supermarket to launch its own organic range in 1986, Sainsbury’s continues to satisfy the growing customer demand for organic products, with recent introductions including expanding its popular SO Organic wine range.

Judith Batchelar, Director of Sainsbury’s Brand said: “It’s fantastic to have been recognised for this award in such a special year for Sainsbury’s, as we celebrate our 150th birthday.

"We are proud to pioneered organic retailing, selling our first organic product more than 30 years ago. This has now flourished and extensively grown, with our SO Organic range now including over 250 items – from wine, to dairy and fresh produce. What’s more, many of our SO Organic products – including chicken, pork, eggs, milk and beef – come from the UK, meaning we can work closely with our amazing organic growers and producers, and we look forward to continuing our partnerships over the next 150 years.”

Sainsbury’s commitment to organic reflects rising customer demand, with research from the Soil Association revealing that the UK organic market has shown growth of +5.3% in 2018 and is currently at its highest ever value of £2.3 billion. Sainsbury’s is a key retailer with over 20% of the organic market as well as being highly regarded for its SO Organic brand.
