At-home hot tub trend on the rise as Argos reports year-on-year nationwide sales boost of 385 per cent.
The heatwave dubbed the ‘Beauty from the East’ is sending Brits everywhere plunging into at-home hot tubs, with sales soaring by an enormous 385 per cent year-on-year according to Argos.
In Newcastle alone, hot tub sales for January to April 2018 were 600 per cent higher than full year sales for 2017, as Geordies sought to enjoy the unseasonally warm spells we’ve seen so far. This has propelled the largest city in the North East to become the hot tub capital of the UK.
In Cardiff, where Argos sold the most hot tubs last year, sales have leapt a relatively modest 267 per cent, placing it in second place in the hot tub sales league.
Liverpool completes the top three, followed by Nottingham, Leeds and Belfast which all feature in the top ten. Footballer-friendly Manchester earned eighth position.
Once the preserve of the rich and famous, owned by the likes of Peter Andre, Cheryl Cole and enjoyed by the England football team for muscle-relaxing post-match soaks, hot tubs have become an affordable luxury in recent years. Hot tub prices at Argos range from just £319.99 for this Bali 2-4 person Lay-Z-Spa Hot Tub, right up to £28,999.99 for this super luxury 20ft St Lawrence Swim Hot Tub.
Vinny Laciofano, Outdoor Living Buying Manager, said: “We’ve been astonished by the sales of hot tubs this year. The heatwave has sent shoppers into a hot tub frenzy, with people are buying them in record numbers and we expect the trend to continue.
“The idea of relaxing in the comfort of your personal garden spa seems to have really caught on, and many customers are looking to recreate the sets of Geordie Shore and Love Island in their own backyards.”
In fact, the weather sent all sorts of fair weather product sales soaring at Argos over the Bank Holiday weekend, with 1,200 per cent more BBQs sold and 1,200 per cent more fans sold than the same time period last year.
