Merry ‘Click & Collectmas’ from Sainsbury’s

07 November 2016

Sainsbury’s is predicting the biggest Christmas for Click & Collect to date, as more customers than ever are set to collect online purchases from stores this December. Click & Collect has become increasingly popular amongst shoppers, with figures* showing a 20% rise in customers using it to pick up gifts over the past three Christmases.

  • Sainsbury’s is installing 200 digital collection points in supermarkets before Christmas
  • Argos, eBay, Tu Clothing and DPD all under one roof
  • Half of the UK population will live within 15 minutes of the 200 digital collection points

Sainsbury’s is further increasing its Click & Collect offering in time for Christmas with the introduction of 200 digital collection points in stores. The move will give 26 million people in the UK the flexibility of collecting eBay purchases, DPD packages and Tu Clothing at Sainsbury’s stores. Customers will be able to collect Argos products at 30 of the new digital collection points.

Customers are increasingly turning to Click & Collect as a quick and convenient way to get their online purchases. 80% of customers choose to Click & Collect their Tu clothing orders from Sainsbury’s stores and the retailer has introduced over 130 Grocery Click & Collect points to build its multichannel offer and make shopping easier for its customers.

The 200 digital collection points in Sainsbury’s stores will be installed by the middle of this month. Customers can find their closest Click & Collect point using the store locator on www.sainsburys.co.uk. Once in store, they can ‘check in’ using a tablet and will have their parcels brought to them by a Sainsbury’s colleague. Many customers who Click & Collect choose to combine this with shopping in store for additional items, or do it alongside their weekly shop.

Clodagh Moriarty, Director of Online, Sainsbury’s, said: “Our customers’ lives are changing and convenience, speed and flexibility are a priority for many of us – particularly at Christmas time. We’re delighted to offer 200 digital collection points for customers to Click & Collect their Christmas gifts at the same time as picking up their turkeys and tinsel.

“Our clothing and grocery Click & Collect services are already popular amongst customers. To expand this to include eBay and Argos purchases and DPD parcels is a great example of the benefits of the Home Retail Group acquisition and just another way we are helping our customers to shop, whenever and wherever they want.”
