As the clocks go back this weekend, we’ll all be getting an extra hour in bed. To help with the longer nights, Sainsbury’s is running a promotion that will help keep homes bright while saving customers cash.
Sainsbury’s is offering a 25% saving on Phillips LED light bulbs until 27 November. The deal is available in stores and online.
LED bulbs are very long lasting and cost less to run than traditional bulbs. According to Phillips, they deliver an immediate, significant saving on your energy bills.
It’s something that Sainsbury’s has made significant use of in its bid to boost sustainability:
- Sainsbury’s is one of the largest user of LED lightbulbs in the country. The supermarket has successfully trialed different LED formats for stores and car park lighting and the power saving bulbs are now a standard.
- Retrofitting stores with LEDs has already helped to save between ten and 12% of a store’s energy usage
- So far, the supermarket has installed more than 70,000 LED lights in stores – delivering a 40GWh saving
- By the end of this financial year, it will have fitted 100,000 LEDs (and saved 54.6GWh)
- The retailer’s Emerald Park depot has reduced electricity use by nearly a third thanks to LED lighting
Head of Sustainability Paul Crewe said: "Customers are often put off by the higher price tag of some LEDs – but our experience at Sainsbury’s is proof that it’s worth every penny.
"LEDs have been so successful at bringing down our energy costs – and improving our green credentials – that we’re rolling them out across our entire estate.
"It’s something that can easily be replicated in the home – and as the clocks go back we’re helping customers to bring their own bills down too."
