Savvy Sainsbury’s customers saved a record £120 million by redeeming their Nectar points in the run up to Christmas and the New Year.[i] This is up nine per cent on the previous year when customers saved £110 million.
Sainsbury’s estimates that over four and a half million customers used Nectar points they had saved during the year to pay for at least part of their Christmas shop. The busiest day for redeeming points was on Monday 23rd December when customers benefitted from nearly £13.5 million of savings simply by using their Nectar card.
Sarah Warby, Sainsbury’s Marketing Director, said: “We know that budgets are stretched at Christmas so it is fantastic that Nectar has enabled so many of our customers to save money making the things they want more affordable. Customers love Nectar as it is so quick and easy to use with many of them saving up their points throughout the year to have an extra-special Christmas with family and friends.
More and more customers than ever before are signing up to Nectar and using their card when they shop with us showing how much they value the scheme and the benefits it brings.”
Nectar is Britain’s biggest loyalty scheme with 19 million cardholders, 12 million of which regularly use their Nectar card when shopping with Sainsbury’s.
